The Diablo Ballet Apprentice Program is a handpicked class of young dancers (ages 11-18) with outstanding potential.This exciting program brings the experience of close contact with a professional company as it prepares young dancers to enter the working world as professional dancers.  It also provides performance opportunities with the Diablo Ballet.

Under the directorship of Viktor Kabaniaev and Tina Kay Bohnstedt, the class participates in an extensive schedule of daily classes, rehearsals and performances.  In addition to daily technique classes, the dancers also participate in repertory and pointe classes.

In 2005, the Diablo Ballet Apprentice dancers placed first in the pre-professional division in the Dance Under the Start Choreography Competition performing Victor Kabaniaev's Go Girls in Palm Desert, California.

Schedule: Classes run from September 4, 2007, through June 15, 2008.  Full program meets 6 days per week.  Drop-in available for technique classes only.

Classes are held at two Civic Arts Education locations, 111 N. Wiget Lane and Studio D at Civic Park, 1313 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek.

Dancers should arrive in dance clothes with pointe shoes.

Audition fee is $15.
Cost: The cost of the program is $320 per month. Drop-in classes available for technique only, $15 per class.  Make checks payable to the City of Walnut Creek.

The Diablo Ballet Professional Intermediate Program is designed for students that have previous dance training and want to pursue professional ballet training.  The age range is from 11 to 18 years, and both girls and boys are encouraged to audition.  This program facilitates young dancers with ability and skill in continuing their dance training even if they are not ready for advanced placement into the current Diablo Ballet Apprentice Program.

Acceptance into one or the other of the two programs would be decided by the Directors of the Apprentice Program, Professional Intermediate Program and Diablo Ballet's Artistic Director, Lauren Jonas.

Schedule: Classes begin September 4, 2007.

All classes are held at Civic Arts Education Studio D, at Civic Park, 1313 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek.

Monday:
4:15-6:15pm:  Technique
6:15-7:15pm:  Repertoire

Wednesday:
6:15-7:45pm:  Technique
7:45-8:15pm:  Pointe

Friday:
4:00-5:30pm:  Technique
5:30-7:00pm:  Repertoire

Saturday:
10:30am-12 noon:  Technique
12 noon-1:30pm:  Pointe

Cost: The cost of the program is $280 per month.  Make checks payable to the City of Walnut Creek.

Agreement of Participation: Each dancer is required to fill out the Application Form and have their photo taken.  An Agreement of Participation will be given to all who come to audition.  This will outline the regulations and the policies for participating in such a professional program.  Dancers will be notified by the end of the day of acceptance into the program, via email.

Nutcracker: Dance students in the Diablo Ballet Apprentice and Professional Intermediate Program are automatically eligible for Diablo Ballet's Nutcracker roles.  Dancers will learn Nutcracker choreography in their repertoire classes listed on the schedule.

Our program dance students will not be required to audition.

The performance participation fee is an additional $200.

Dancers will need to be at the Shadelands studio every Saturday in November for full cast rehearsals from 2:30-6:30pm.
